Famous Comedian

Did you know Tommy Cooper was born 19 March 1921 in Caerphilly. Tommy took up show business in 1947 and rapidly became one of the nation’s favourite comedians in a career that spanned 30 years. He habitually wore a red fez and his hallmark was the conjuror whose tricks never succeed. He had a considerable stage presence at 6ft 5 inches. On 15 April 1984 he died of a heart attack live on television. A statue to commemorate Tommy can be seen at The Twyn in the centre of Caerphilly.
